Messager de Vordense is an original 17th century Provençal stone house located at the center of the famed hilltop village of Gordes in the Luberon area of Provence. Gordes is considered one of the most beautiful village in France. Artists, travelers, and writers have been drawn to the sun-drenched landscapes and enchanting villages of the Luberon area in Provence for centuries.
The Maison combines rustic simplicity with modern convenience and sweeping views of the Luberon. This delightful cottage is built of native stone and roofed with terracotta tile typical of the region’s architecture. A terrace, swimming pool, and garden invite you to partake in the gracious outdoor living that defines Provence. The house has been carefully and respectfully remodeled using traditional artisanal techniques, utilizing the finest materials, and decorated to the highest standards. High-speed internet, smart air conditioning, and heated bathroom floors mean never forsaking comfort for authenticity. Airy and full of light, tranquility washes over all who enter. It’s impossible not to feel instantly at ease in this serene and luxurious setting.
Perched on the hilltop of the medieval village, the house offers exceptional panoramic vistas of the valley below, as well as the Luberon and Alpilles mountain ranges beyond. Being in the heart of the village puts you steps away from local boulangeries, grocery stores, art galleries, boutiques, doctors, a pharmacy, a post office, and many cafés and restaurants. And don't forget, Tuesday is market day in Gordes with its lively stalls of fresh local products. Walk the winding cobblestone streets and visit the weekly market brimming with irresistible local goods and produce.
Upper Level - Master Suite Vasarely
The top floor belongs to the Master Bedroom Suite, named the Mistral Suite, which is composed of two distinct rooms and an en-suite bathroom. The windows of this stylish suite overlook the village on one side and the valley on the other. Both rooms have a smart air-conditioning system, SONOS sound system, and high-speed WiFi. A safe box is also available to secure your belongings.
The bedroom area has a generous queen size (160cmx200cm) canopy bed and is very bright with its 2 windows with views of the village to the north, and of the valley to the south.
The second and attached room could be used as:
- a private lounge area
- a dressing and vanity room with an entire wall of custom made closets where you can hang all your clothes from couture dresses to designer t-shirts
- a home office working far away from the office with printer, a RJ45 connector with fiber optic ethernet connection, a 27-inch screen monitor (on request)
- a baby room (crib on request)
- a 4th bedroom with the couch that can be converted into a comfortable full size bed (140cmx200cm)
The Mistral suite has, of course, an en-suite bathroom, all marble with double sinks and a large bathtub for two that offers splendid views of the Luberon valley. There is a separate walk in shower and separate smart-toilet (think Japanese smart toilet but Swiss made). The heated floor in the master bathroom is a welcome touch on a chilly autumn or winter morning.
Street Level - Living & Dining Rooms
The ground floor entrance opens to a welcoming dining area with a large table that seats up to 8 people comfortably. The next room is the lounge area with a deep and comfortable couch that feels like being in a cloud, a 65 inches OLED television with sound system to watch movies from cable TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, or international news such BBC, CNN, CNBC, France24 and many others, a bar cabinet, and wood burning fireplace. Sip an aperitif as you enjoy a book, watch a movie, or stream your playlist from the Sonos sound system, while the smart air-conditioning system will keep the area fresh during the summer time, and warm and cozy during the winter season.
Channel your inner Julia Child or Gordon Ramsey in the main kitchen fully equipped with modern appliances. A large SMEG fridge and freezer for those farmers market delicacies, a SMEG cooking top to cook some Provencal specialties, a SIEMENS dishwasher, a BOSCH microwave.
The cozy balcony is the ideal spot to start the day with a cup of tea or coffee from the NESPRESSO machine, but of course with some freshly baked croissant from the local boulangerie.
Intermediate Level - La Rosée & Jasper Bedrooms
The intermediate level, between the street and the garden levels, is dedicated to the 2 guest bedrooms: La Rosée and Jasper. Both rooms are equipped with smart air-conditioning, safe-box, Sonos sound system, hi-speed WiFi, and ethernet RJ45 connectors. The floor is heated in both bathrooms, a welcomed touch during chilly season.
La Rosée bedroom, featuring a queen size bed (160cmx200cm) and classic furniture, recalls the elegance of 18th century France but with all up to date amenities. Its name evoques the morning dew in Provence releasing the early perfume of the day and is also named after the Hermes silk scarf that is displayed at the entrance of the bedroom. Its dedicated bathroom and located on the hallway, is a delightfully designed jewel box. Despite its petite size, it has a nice shower space, a practical sink and toilet, and a heated floor. Turn on the Sonos sound system and sing in the shower!
The Jasper bedroom decor is pure Provence, simple and carefree, an enticing nook with a full size bed (140cmx200cm). This second guests bedroom has an en-suite bathroom featuring a uniquely shaped bathtub integrating a nice-sized shower area, a sink, toilet, and heated floor beneath the designed cement tiles.
Garden Level - Summer Kitchen, Pool, Outdoor Dining etc.
A graceful pergola in the garden level shades a large table that can comfortably accommodate 12 people - a gathering place for friends and family to share a meal and stories of adventures in the French countryside, while grilling some fresh and organic local vegetables in the barbecue.
A second kitchen - the summer kitchen - is also fully equipped with a SMEG fridge with freezer, SIEMENS dishwasher, SMEG gas cooking-top and electric oven, and BOSCH microwave oven. A professional ice cube machine is also available to refresh you summer drinks!
Adjacent, in a very unusual vaulted room carved into the mountain, is the gym space where you can exercise with the water-rower machine and some dumbbells.
The laundry room, equipped with a large capacity washer and a separate dryer unit, is also vaulted and carved out of the rock.
A shower room and a discrete separated toilet completes this floor.
A few meters away, through a landscaped garden perfumed with the scents of multiple roses and Provençal plants, is a secluded pool area where you can swim and take in the view of the valley. The decent-sized pool could be heated (with a fee) and features an upstream-swim system for endless laps swimming. A whirlwind pool awaits you in a secluded grotto. After a day of Luberon countryside discovery, savor a glass of rosé or pastis (anise-flavored spirits, the typical drink in Provence) in the sun loungers on the pool deck. Santé!
